Homecoming & Junior/Senior Prom

Homecoming

The Homecoming dance celebrates the yearly tradition of welcoming past graduates back to CHS/SAHS. Held during the fall, Homecoming usually falls in October or November. Other CUSD traditions related to Homecoming weekend include the Homecoming Parade and football game.

Junior & Senior Prom

Planned by the junior class in honor of the seniors, the Prom is especially significant and often considered the ‘dance of the year.’ The Prom is a formal dance which is held off-campus near the end of the school year.

Expectations

Students are required to bring their Minga digital ID cards to each dance. Students must remain inside or within specified areas. Once a student leaves the dance, he or she may not return. Attendees will not be admitted 90 minutes past the start of the dance or excused prior to 30 minutes before the end of the dance unless a CHS/SHAS administrator has received verbal permission from the parent/ guardian even if the student is 18 years old.

School rules apply at every dance, including those held off campus. Behavior violations, including all controlled substance violations, will be treated according to the provisions later in this handbook. Students who commit serious offenses (i.e., five days suspension with recommendation for expulsion) will, as a bare minimum, be prohibited from participating in all extracurricular activities for eighteen weeks. Students that are on the library delinquency list will need to clear their fines. .

Upon entering a dance, students receive a wristband. On a first offense, students who engage in freak dancing and/or sexually explicit dance gestures or moshing/crowd surfing will have their wristbands removed by an administrator. Subsequent offenses may result in dismissal from the dance and parent notification

Guests at Dances

A student may bring a non-CUSD guest to Homecoming or Prom under the following guidelines:

● A guest pass is required and must be approved by a SAHS administrator before the advertised deadline and before purchasing a ticket for the guest.

● All guests will need to provide a copy of their photo ID with the guest pass application and bring this same ID to the dance.

● If high school age, then the guest must be enrolled in school, and that school must be able to provide information about the guest. Junior high school students are not admitted to Homecoming or Prom.

● Guests who have finished high school are permitted if they have not reached their 19th birthday by Homecoming; for Prom, students who have not reached their 21st birthday will be allowed, upon the principal’s approval.

● Guests must understand that they are attending a high school event and are expected to follow all school rules and directions given by all adults at the event. The SAHS student is responsible for communicating all expectations to the guest.

Dance Regulations and Dress Code

Dress for most dances varies. Any change in acceptable attire will be advertised prior to the dance. A specific dress code applies to each dance and will be enforced. The attire for Prom requires students to wear formal attire, such as a tie with a jacket or a dress. Strapless dresses are acceptable at these events. An administrator will be stationed at the entrance to the dance to check improper attire. Students who are dressed inappropriately will not be permitted to enter the dance, and their parents will be notified of their transgression. No refunds will be awarded. While on the SAHS campus or at school-related activities, students will:

● Wear shirts that cover more skin than is exposed.

● Wear bottoms that do not expose buttocks or undergarments at any time

● Wear attire and accessories that do not advocate gangs, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, violence, terrorism, or display obscene symbols, images, gestures, or wording

● Wear appropriate layers with thin or transparent clothing

● Wear sunglasses indoors for documented medical reasons only

● Wear clothing that is not intended for sleepwear

● Wear appropriate outdoor footwear
